First Work Placement in Liverpool

Monday, March 16th, 2020

As part of our commitment to social value within our community, DMA is collaborating with PLACED in the North West to provide work placement opportunities to young people starting their careers in the built environment. This builds on DMA’s work experience programme, which has been developed in our London studio and has been recognised with multiple awards, including a Lord Mayor’s Dragon Award for inclusive employment in 2018 and a Global Good award in 2019.

Lori has been the first participant doing the placement in our Liverpool office and the experience couldn’t have been more positive. Lori managed to put together a Design and Access statement document with her own design proposal for a housing project in London. She carried out a thorough research/analysis of the site, sketched the plans, developed a 3D model and CGIs linked to a QR code for her project as well as learned how to use InDesign, Photoshop and Revit in just one week.

Lori commented:

“My work experience placement with David Miller Architects was incredible!

“I have learned so many new skills like 3D design and how to plan floor views, as well as other useful techniques that will most definitely help me in the future. The team there was amazing and helped me to feel comfortable for the entire week, as well as giving me helpful advice and tips for future choices such as further education or careers. I feel so fortunate to have had this opportunity and I will surely remember it for many years, as it was fun and taught me a lot about not only architecture but the world of work in general.”
