St Augustine’s School in Kilburn has undergone a major refurbishment and remodelling as part of Westmister City Council’s secondary education building programme. DMA has been working with their client Bouygues UK in upgrading teaching spaces at this secondary school of 760 pupils which was handed over for the start of the 2011/2012 academic year. The works included a new 700m2 science suite, the remodelling of the original sports hall into drama and dance studios, designed to be used as either performance or teaching space and linking in with a new music department that includes ensemble and individual practice spaces and recording studios with mixing desks. In addition to the interior remodelling, the facades have been treated to revitalise the school’s identity with new balcony boxes and rendered panels in bold colours.
