Existing student accommodation in Clerkenwell was reorganised and re-planned to increase the number of self contained study bedrooms, while still providing a common room/study area and gym for the residents.
Eleven additional bedroom units have been created by utilising previously underused spaces and careful re-planning, making sure that natural daylight is maximised to all the rooms. The common room and gym have been relocated to a semi-basement, where previously blocked up windows have been unblocked and a lightwell created, with ceilings and walls tapered away from the window to further increase the amount of light entering the space.
Completed on time and on budget, the work was carefully phased to minimise disruption, since the building was occupied throughout. As with the other three student housing projects for the same client, pre-fabricated bathroom pods sped up construction times and bright, distinctive colours and high quality, durable finishes create a lively and non-institutional appearance.
