George Eliot School

Client: Bouygues UK
Status: On site, due to complete September 2012

The practice took on the delivery of this new school, which forms part of the Marlborough Hill Campus in St Johns Wood. It is the final scheme which will complete Westminster City Council’s education building programme.

The new, two-storey building combines a nursery, infant and junior schools and a separate alternative provision centre. It sits within parkland and the setting plays an important part in the design. The existing mature trees have been retained wherever possible and classrooms benefit from an outlook onto them. The pinwheel plan gives all classrooms direct access to outside, with defined exterior play spaces. George Eliot School will be naturally ventilated throughout, and the parkland feel is maintained with four pitched green roofs.

DMA have helped deliver six out of the total ten schools in Westminster with Bouygues UK. With this latest project, we have been able to develop the most advanced BIM (Building Information Modelling) model, providing the opportunity to run clash detection, material take offs and a project timeline.
