Canary Wharf College opened its doors for the 2011/12 academic year this month, only twelve months after its trustees submitted their application to the Department for Education. DMA have helped them in the first phase of building works – refurbishing parts of a run-down Edwardian building on the Isle of Dogs that had previously been a pupil referral unit. The building, which also continues to house a community centre, was in desperate need of renovation to bring it up to the required standard. This new school for four to eleven year olds is the only free school to open in the East End this year.
