CityWide Deconversions, social housing remodelling

Client: CityWest Homes Ltd
Status: Completed May 2011

DMA have been involved in a programme that CityWest Homes (Westminster City Council’s ALMO for Social Housing) are undertaking to ‘de-convert’ a number of their larger properties. They tend to be large, beautiful, stand-alone houses, often in conservation areas and sometimes listed buildings that have previously been converted and split up into smaller flats and studios.

This type of accommodation doesn’t meet the current demand for more family-oriented accommodation in Westminster, and many have been left empty to fall into disrepair. What are really needed now are larger homes, so, for example, what has previously been a property of four 1 and 2-bed flats might be converted into two 3-bed maisonettes. At the same time, the building’s environmental performance is improved, with thermal and acoustic properties upgraded to meet today’s standards.
