BIM around the table

David Miller was part of a round table debate organised by Construction News in association with Autodesk that examined the practical aspects, challenges and strategies of implementing BIM (Building Information Modelling). All public sector projects are required to use BIM within five years and this discussion brought together around 20 clients, contractors, architects and consultants, all at different stages of adopting BIM, to discuss their experiences so far. They looked at how BIM adds value for clients and how Government directive is driving the agenda, as well as the question – why now? – is it the maturity of the technology, the industry savings required in the current climate, or the fact that we just can’t go on working the way we always have?

David Philp, representing the Cabinet Office referred to it as “a programme of transformational change”, stripping out waste and “making assets perform more effectively in their life cycle”.

The event was chaired by the Editor of Construction News, Rebecca Evans, the full article can be seen here.
